Background
Founded in 1994, EUROPA DONNA – The European Breast Cancer Coalition is an independent, non-profit organisation whose members are affiliated national groups from countries throughout Europe. The Coalition works to raise awareness of breast cancer and mobilise the support of European women in advocating for improved breast cancer education, appropriate screening, optimal treatment and increased funding for research.
Europa Donna currently has national groups in 47 member countries. Its Head Office is located in Milan, Italy, but it is an international organisation whose official working language is English. All written and oral communications are therefore conducted in English.

The Position
Europa Donna is seeking an experienced, creative and collaborative Communication Officer to coordinate and strengthen its internal and external communication.
The Communication Officer will help shape Europa Donna’s voice across its digital and printed communication, developing clear and engaging messages and ensuring a coherent narrative across the Coalition’s platforms and activities. The role combines communication planning and editorial oversight and the coordination of external communication support.
The Communication Officer will lead Europa Donna’s communication strategy and priorities, overseeing and coordinating the planning and delivery of social media activities, graphic design and video production.
The position reports to the Executive Director.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the development and implementation of Europa Donna’s communication strategy in collaboration with the Executive Director.
- Develop editorial and communication plans aligned with the organisation’s strategic and advocacy priorities.
- Lead the communication aspects of awareness campaigns, advocacy initiatives, projects, educational programmes and events.
- Lead Europa Donna’s social media strategy and editorial planning, overseeing and coordinating day-to-day social media activities, graphic design and video production.
- Review and approve externally produced materials, ensuring their accuracy, quality and alignment with Europa Donna’s priorities, tone of voice and visual identity.
- Manage and update the content of Europa Donna’s website, ensuring that information remains accurate, relevant and current. Develop communication plans and materials for conferences, webinars, advocacy initiatives and other events.
- Prepare and distribute newsletters and other targeted digital communication.
- Monitor communication activities and measure results, working with Europa Donna’s staff, Board, national groups and external partners to continuously improve reach and engagement.
Your profile
- Strong strategic thinking and project-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities, suppliers and deadlines.
- Excellent writing, editing and proofreading skills.
- The ability to understand complex scientific, health and policy information and communicate it clearly to non-specialist audiences.
- Strong interpersonal and relationship-management skills, including the ability to work confidently with patient advocates, experts, senior stakeholders and external partners.
- Creativity combined with accuracy, sound judgement and close attention to detail.
- A proactive, collaborative and solution-oriented approach.
- The ability to work independently and as part of a small, international team.
- Sensitivity and good judgement when communicating about breast cancer, health and personal patient experiences.

Qualifications
- A university degree in communication, journalism, marketing or another relevant field, or equivalent professional experience.
- At least five years of proven professional experience in communication or a comparable role, preferably within an NGO, patient organisation, healthcare organisation, membership network or European association.
- Excellent written and spoken English is mandatory, preferably at native or near-native level.
- Experience developing communication strategies, editorial plans and multi-channel campaigns.
- Experience briefing and coordinating external professionals, agencies or suppliers and reviewing their work.
- Experience managing website content, newsletters, social media channels and other digital communication.
- A good working knowledge of social media management, email marketing and analytics tools.
- Excellent command of Microsoft 365.
- Availability to work on-site, with the possibility of working from home one day per week.
- Flexibility with working hours and availability to travel in connection with Europa Donna events and conferences.
Desirable qualifications
- An interest in breast cancer, patient advocacy and European health policy, together with a willingness to develop further knowledge in these areas.
- Familiarity with Canva, Adobe Creative Cloud or comparable graphic-design and video-editing tools, sufficient to prepare briefs and review externally produced work.
- Strong social media skills, including experience in content development, publishing, community management and performance analysis across different platforms.
What we offer
A part-time position of 25/30 hours per week (to be agreed, in line with the candidate’s professional experience).
- Gross annual remuneration will range from €23’000 to €33’000, proportionate to the agreed number of working hours and commensurate with the candidate’s relevant experience and qualifications.
- The role is based at Europa Donna’s Head Office in Milan; working from home is allowed one day per week.
