Job Description

Background

The International Rescue Committee (IRC) responds to the world’s worst humanitarian crises and helps people to survive and rebuild their lives. Founded in 1933, the IRC offers lifesaving care and life-changing assistance to refugees forced to flee from war or disaster. At work today in over 50 countries, the IRC aims to restore safety, dignity, and hope to millions uprooted and struggling to endure.

 

Context of the Assignment

Under different projects across Italy, IRC staff provides legal information, both in person and online, and case management services to refugee and migrant populations, as well as to volunteers who support our users in their employability and is often required to respond to complex legal questions related to work integration and employment.

The WISE project pairs a trauma and gender-sensitive approach, mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS) with employment services enabled by technology driven solutions to create a holistic support system for employable refugee women from Ukraine in Italy and Bulgaria. This project aims to enhance Ukrainian women’s employability, skills-job match, lifelong learning, access and integration to the labor market, enable them to better navigate social and public services, and enhance their mental and psychosocial well-being.

 

Purpose of the Assignment

The Theatre Workshop Leader will contribute to the activities for IRC clients involved in WISE, by designing and facilitating theatre workshops for Ukrainian women. We are seeking an experienced and sensitive Theatre Workshop Leader to facilitate creative theatre workshops aimed at personal growth, emotional wellbeing, and self-expression. The workshops are designed to support participants in reconnecting with their inner resources and exploring their life experiences through creative practices.

 

SCOPE OF WORK

Specific objectives of the assignment

The Theatre Workshop Leader will plan and deliver theater activities using creative and inclusive methodologies, facilitating group work, improvisation, and performance-based activities. Moreover, they will be in charge of creating a safe, supportive, and stimulating learning environment, by adapting workshops to the needs and abilities of participants, by supporting participants in developing confidence, expression, and teamwork skills

Deliverables

  • Theatre activities conducted two times per month (1.5 h)
  • Design and facilitation of a series of theatre workshops focused on self-expression and wellbeing of Ukrainian women
  • A written workshop plan and methodology

 

Timeframe

The assignment will start on 20th January 2026 and last for 6 months. Working dates will be determined based on the availability of the worker and IRC staff, and activity will be delivered twice per month (14:30-16:00).

 

Competencies and skills

  • Proven experience leading theatre or drama workshops
  • Background in theatre, performing arts, drama education, or applied theatre
  • Strong facilitation, listening, and communication skills
  • Ability to work with migrant women on a personal development or wellbeing context
  • Fluency in Ukrainian and Russian (additional languages are an asset)
  • Familiarity with online meeting tools such as Zoom and MS Teams.
  • Fluency in Italian.

Agreement and payment terms
