Job Description
Background
The International Rescue Committee (IRC) responds to the world’s worst humanitarian crises, helping to restore health, safety, education, economic wellbeing, and power to people devastated by conflict and disaster. Founded in 1933 at the call of Albert Einstein, the IRC is one of the world’s largest international humanitarian non-governmental organizations (INGO), at work in more than 40 countries and 29 U.S. cities helping people to survive, reclaim control of their future and strengthen their communities. A force for humanity, IRC employees deliver lasting impact by restoring safety, dignity and hope to millions. If you’re a solutions-driven, passionate change-maker, come join us in positively impacting the lives of millions of people world-wide for a better future.
Since 2021, IRC has partnered with local education systems to enhance educators’ capacity to create environments that foster children’s well-being and holistic development in safe, welcoming and child-friendly settings. A special focus is given to children who have experienced, or are at risk of, adverse childhood experiences, particularly migrant and refugee children. Education is a right, and the key to a bright future, and displaced children often face difficulty in accessing and integrating into schools.
IRC is involved in several EU-funded projects that promote inclusive education and support for refugee and migrant students across Europe. In the Theory of Change project, IRC collaborates with other organizations based in Italy, Greece, Cyprus, and Sweden to support educators, migrant adolescents, and families in overcoming challenges related to education and integration.
Job Overview
The Educator will support refugee and migrant children and adolescents and their families through inclusive, community-based educational programming, by contributing to the implementation of the Theory of Change project and on the expansion of IRC education programming in Milan. Under the Protection and Program Development Manager supervision and in collaboration with the Senior Education Officer, local partners and external stakeholders, the Educator will co-facilitate group activities focused on language learning and social-emotional development, delivering orientation sessions for children and adolescents, and engaging caregivers on key topics to support their children’s learning.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Provide education case management and orientation for adolescent students.
- Co-facilitate group sessions for children and adolescents on language learning and social-emotional skills using IRC materials.
- Co-facilitate group sessions with caregivers on child development and education-related topics.
- Participate in multidisciplinary teams, case conferences, workshops, trainings, and team meetings.
- Maintain accurate case documentation and ensure compliance with reporting and data management protocols.
- Support other program-related tasks as assigned by the supervisor.
