LOCATION: MANNAR, SRI LANKA
DATE: JANUARY ONWARDS (4-12 WEEKS )
Looking for an exciting and meaningful volunteering experience? Share your computer skills and support the foundational years of Tamil children in conflict-affected villages in Northern Sri Lanka!
Join us next year to help children in remote areas of Northern Sri Lankan province escape the low education-low income trap. Our fantastic local partner is working on the ground to deliver modern-methodological teaching that improves educational outcome. We need volunteers to assist them in raising teaching standards by increasing students’ exposure to ICT. We are not looking for IT experts, just positive and flexible individuals who are confident about their computer skills.
What will you get out of it?
You will be delivering training workshops and organise exposure visits. Besides improving students’ level of education, this will be a fantastic opportunity for you to build on your own communication skills and boost confidence by working closely with a dynamic and dedicated local team.
This will be an immersive experience where you will experience first-hand the challenges facing some of the most marginalised communities within Sri Lanka – a country that otherwise has high rates of primary and secondary education achievement. It is also a stunning country so you will never run out of places to explore!
If you are willing to go out of your comfort zone, up for a challenge and want to contribute towards positive change while learning new skills, forging friendships and exploring a new culture then get in touch!
Successful applicants must be prepared to live and work in very basic conditions with limited access to running water, electricity and wifi.
A fundraising commitment for the charity is required. Successful applicants will be assigned a fundraising mentor who is on hand to answer any questions or queries you may have as well as providing ideas, advice and support to help you reach your target.
Once in country there is a fixed daily cost covering accommodation and any work related travel. A more detailed breakdown of costs and expenses will be provided for those applicants selected for an interview.
